The league will be known as the Tuesday Night Oak Pointe Men’s League. Membership is limited to members of the Honors or Championship Course of Oak Pointe Country Club and their male dependents with the following limitations:

  • All league players must hold golf memberships
  • All league players must be of the age of 21 years old (as a precaution against alcohol violations and gambling)
  • A dependent may not participate over the age of 24 years old (maximum age a dependent retains golfing privileges)
  • A dependent is eligible for league point awards as a result of “finishing in the money” for the first or second half of the season, but is not eligible to enter any of the side prize pools (Super Skins, gross skins, net skins, closest-to-the-pins, long drives or fewest putts)
  • Refer to note on measures available for prize payouts to maintain/protect amateur status in the section on membership dues below

League play will commence in mid to late April and will continue every Tuesday for twenty (20) weeks of play. Tee-off times will be a 5:30 pm or 5:45 pm Shotgun depending on the time of year. Foursomes are not pre-arranged and they can be determined by the cart staff when you arrive. Simply ask them to put you on a cart either front or back nine depending which nine you played the previous week. The goal is to play both nines an equal number of times during each half.

League standings will be based on individual play. One of the league’s objectives is to meet other Club members; therefore a mixing of golf foursomes is encouraged on a weekly basis.

Each season will be divided into a first and second half consisting of approximately ten (10) weeks of play. Cash prizes will be awarded to a minimum of the top forty (40) players and ties of each half. Points and position do not carry-over from one-half to the next. Everyone starts new in the second half.

USGA rules will apply. Although you will establish a League handicap, by following USGA rules you can post your nine-hole score into the OPCC handicap system each week. Posting of scores is the responsibility of the golfer and will not be done by the League Commisssioner. If in doubt on any rules item, consult your playing partners and reach a consensus of the foursome.

Cancellation of play due to inclement weather will be decided at the golf course at the start of scheduled tee-off times, unless the course is closed by the pro shop. Common sense prevails. If play is called during the round, completion of five-holes by all players will constitute a complete round and scores will be prorated for the holes that were not completed for both points and handicap. Cancelled rounds of golf will not be made up.

Each player will compete against the course par rating with the benefit of an individual handicap. Handicaps will be calculated as described in the following paragraphs. The maximum handicap allowed will be 18 (two strokes per hole). The maximum actual (gross) score that can be recorded for any hole is four (4) over par. Handicap strokes will be applied to holes per the handicap sequence noted on the scorecard.

Handicaps for returning league members will be calculated at 90% using the 4 best of the last 5 rounds played during the previous season. Starting with the second round played during the current season, the handicap will be determined using 100% of the average score to par for the four best of the last 6 rounds played. If fewer than 5 rounds were played the previous year, then the handicap will be determined as described below for new league members (adjusted appropriately for the number of rounds that were played). In all cases, fractions will be dropped.

Handicaps for new league members will be determined following the first round of play as follows: 60% of score to par of the first round played for the first and second rounds; 70% of average score to par of the first 2 rounds played for the third round; 80% of average score to par for the rounds played to apply for the fourth and fifth rounds; 90% of the average score to par for the best 4 of the first 5 rounds played for the sixth round; 100% of the average score to par for the 4 best of the last 6 rounds played for the seventh and all subsequent rounds. In all cases, fractions will be dropped.

Points will be awarded on the basis of the net (handicapped) score for each hole as follows:

  • 1 point for par
  • 2 points for birdie
  • 3 points for eagle
  • 5 points for double-eagle
  • 10 points for actual hole-in-one

Points will be cumulative in each half of the season, with both halves starting with zero points. Since some members must be absent from time to time, it becomes difficult for them to achieve and maintain position in the standings. To help maintain their competitive interest in the aspects of the league, it is agreed to award five (5) points to an absent player a maximum of two times in each half of the season, without carryover. No points will be awarded for other missed rounds, rounds played on a different day of the week, nor can missed rounds be made up or a substitute golfer used.

Annual dues of $100 per member must be paid by the start of league play. The annual dues will be used to pay the League Commissioner’s Entry fee, to pay for administrative expenses, to pay position prizes, and to provide for an event at the end of the season. The fees are allocated proportionately to first half prizes; second half prizes; year-end event. For anyone concerned about protecting their status as an amateur golfer, arrangements can be made to arrange for gift cards or pro shop credit in lieu of cash prizes.  A portion of the dues are used to support charitable golf outings on behalf of the Men’s League, i.e. sponsorship of Rally for a Cure, ARC Golf Outing, etc.

I expect that the league will have nearly 120 golfers this year and this will require your assistance in maintaining accurate records. To insure accuracy, I request that all members complete their scorecards correctly by posting gross score only and total putts per round. Scorecards should be hand-delivered to the League Commissioner immediately following the round. Please use the golfer’s full name. We have too many Paul’s and John’s for me to identify their score without a last name.
